Simple and Unnoticed

Stop to smell the roses.
Stop to enjoy the view.
Stop to notice the little things...

Like what?

Doorknobs. I know. What am I talking about? Doorknobs... why those? Because, those are the reasons you are able to enter buildings, passages, gates, etc. They are also stylish. You must think I am speaking nonsense. But here in Italy, doorknobs are part of defining ones home. No one entry point has the same doorknob.

Walking down the street in your town, the houses are probably further away from the street and
every doorknob looks relatively similar. But I dare you, walk around Italy. I don't care where, because everywhere will be different. Round ones, curved ones, embellished ones, the list goes on. Unfortunately while I gawk at these simple embellishments on a door, I have yet to just take out my camera and take a picture of the doorknobs I have seen. But I promise, I owe you a post full of doorknobs.

There is one door where it has graffiti all over it, and looks as if you were to touch it, the door would crumble to your feet. However, there is a large round silver doorknob in the center of the door that makes your imagination run wild. I'm serious. It feels as if it could be a secret passage to Wonder Land, or any kind of different world. Trust me, traveling is already a different world. But we are all human, but unable to comprehend one another in comparison to what a dog and wolf can do. But I digress, just have to learn the culture, language is just a bunch of words. Actions speak.

What else should you look out for that's super simple?

Walk around at night. Yes at night. And not drunk. And not in the common areas. I dare you to go outside to an area people don't populate at night. No don't go by yourself, are you silly? And turn around after you walk a good distance. Always turn around and see where you have been, because when you turn around what you had just seen looks much different. The lights of the night, the lights of human, echoing down the street. The view itself just makes you realize that you are somewhere different. I promise, you will walk somewhere where your mind will say, once you turn around, "did I really just walk through here?"

This is just in Italy and it wasn't even one of the top places I voyaged through at night, where the street lights lit up a path. I sometimes wonder if Florentines who are native to the area stop as much as we do and actually realize where they live is actually gorgeous. Anyway, I dare you to go out and attempt this trial and post me pictures of what you see. The world is ours to explore, not laze around, create, not destroy, design, not pollute, and so on.

What else?
Let's stick with the night for a while. Walk to an area you normally pass by during the day, but this time walk around at night. I swear its much different and has a magic touch. Who knows, you may actually find something amazing. C, Rk, and I found a theater near us that has orchestras come and play at. We pass by the theater every day at least 3 times and never once realized it was really there until last night. Either we're blind, or our eyes are just attracted to certain things at certain times.

Where else?

Explore. Seriously. That is the best thing you can do, because you never know what you will find when you just go out on a limb.

Now I'd love to tell you more of the Simple and Unnoticed, but we will have to leave that for another post because my homework is beckoning me, and I have refused the call long enough.

Ciao Amici!
